Vehicle ownership in the Philippines requires balancing legal obligations with personal financial safety. Whether you drive a sedan, MPV, SUV, and EV or light commercial truck, understanding the difference between Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) and Comprehensive Car Insurance helps you avoid unexpected financial loss on the road.

Compulsory Third Party Liability (CTPL) is the baseline insurance coverage mandated by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) under the Philippine Insurance Code. Every car owner must present a valid CTPL policy upon registering or renewing their vehicle.
Primary Purpose: Protects third parties—such as pedestrians, bystanders, or passengers of other vehicles—from bodily harm, medical expenses, or death resulting from an accident caused by your insured motor vehicle.
Coverage Period:
Brand-New Vehicles: 3-Year term coverage upon first registration.
Vehicle Renewals: 1-Year term coverage matching your annual LTO renewal schedule.
While CTPL fulfills legal minimums, a single road collision or flood event can easily create heavy out-of-pocket costs. Standard Insurance Car Protect bridges these gaps with multi-layered financial coverage:
Covers repair costs or financial indemnification if your vehicle suffers damage from accidental collision, overturning, falling objects, fire, or malicious mischief by third parties.
Provides compensation if your vehicle or its covered factory parts are lost due to carnapping or theft.
When medical expenses exceed basic CTPL limits—or when you hit another vehicle, wall, or commercial storefront—Excess BI and Third-Party Property Damage (TPPD) absorb the liability.
Essential for drivers navigating typhoon seasons and flood-prone roads. Covers damages caused by earthquakes, typhoons, severe floods, volcanic eruptions, and lightning.
Enjoy 24/7 peace of mind with automatic technical assistance, emergency towing services, and access to an extensive network of accredited Casa repair shops nationwide.
CTPL is a mandatory insurance policy required by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in the Philippines prior to registering or renewing any motor vehicle. It protects vehicle owners against legal liabilities for bodily injury or death caused to a third party during a road accident involving the insured vehicle.
No. CTPL strictly covers third-party bodily injury, hospital expenses, or death. It does not cover repair costs for your own vehicle, damages to another driver's property/car, theft, or natural disasters.
CTPL is a mandatory government requirement limited to third-party physical injury/death. Comprehensive Car Insurance (such as Standard Insurance’s Car Protect) is a holistic coverage plan that includes Own Damage (OD), Theft, Third Party Property Damage (TPPD), Excess Bodily Injury, Unnamed Passenger Personal Accident, and optional Acts of Nature (AON) coverage.
Acts of Nature (also called Acts of God) protects your vehicle against damages directly caused by natural calamities, including severe typhoon flooding, earthquakes, volcanic ashfall/eruptions, and lightning strikes.
